The CAOA has established for our members a stringent code of ethics and high standards in professionalism and education, and now offers on-going continuing education courses. Our members have completed comprehensive courses of study approved by the CAOA Board of Directors, and continue to build upon this broad base regularly. The CAOA also has the mandate of educating the public on the considerable benefits aromatherapy has to offer.

In June 2018, the British Columbia Alliance of Aromatherapy (BCAOA) amalgamated with her sister association, the British Columbia Association of Practicing Aromatherapists (BCAPA) to create a larger, integrated community of professional aromatherapists with access to both continuing education events and Occupational Titles.

In October 2020 the BCAOA Board of Directors approached the membership with a proposal to operate the British Columbia Alliance of Aromatherapy as the Canadian Alliance of Aromatherapy. The Board felt that the change of name was necessary to ensure the growth and success of the association by communication with potential members that we are in fact a national association in spite of the words “British Columbia” in the title. Forty percent of the current Board of Directors do not reside in the province of British Columbia, and the membership of the BCAOA spans all ten provinces and three territories in Canada.

The membership voted overwhelmingly to change the association’s by laws and the Canadian Alliance of Aromatherapy (CAOA) was registered on October 29, 2020.

We have many members, in BC and beyond, who work in various areas of aromatherapy, from owning retail stores and websites to manufacturing aromatherapy products, to running their own aromatherapy practices where they offer the public the professionalism, wealth of knowledge and education they have attained as a member of the CAOA.
